i3D.net, an industry-leading hosting provider specialising in online video gaming infrastructure and Asteroid, a global interconnection platform innovator, announced today that they are connecting the i3D.net global low-latency network to the Asteroid IXP in Amsterdam.

i3D.net is specialised in global game hosting for publishers and developers, a service that requires excellent network performance and latency. Placing the i3D.net services close to the user is key in delivering that high-quality service. By connecting to the Asteroid Amsterdam Internet exchange point (IXP), i3D.net can do so in an efficient and effortless manner. At the Asteroid IXP, i3D.net will be able to peer locally, handing off their gaming traffic to players while knowing for sure that the next-hop router is physically located in the same data centre campus. This will result in a significant reduction in latency to any of the video games hosted by i3D.net.

At i3D.net, we are all about providing that high-quality experience. In the gaming industry you constantly need to innovate to stay ahead of the curve. That is why we like the smart and innovative approach by Asteroid. The modern Asteroid IXP with its automation at the core and its focus on true local interconnection and high performance, matches perfectly with the i3D.net mindset.

Martijn Schmidt, Network Architect at i3D.net

The Asteroid IXP offers a fully automated, secured interconnection platform for some of the largest carriers, ISPs, CDNs, and gaming companies globally. The smart engineering design of Asteroid’s IXP in Amsterdam provides its users with a full-featured, highly automated, scalable, and cost-effective network peering system.

Built on the latest technologies, the Asteroid IXP platform provides a disruptive technology design, where network peers are just one simple click away, resulting in highly automated network peering.

We are very proud to work with i3D.net. The Asteroid IXP platform was designed for efficiency, and working with i3D.net which has such a focus on performance and local availability, is a real pleasure. We are very excited about contributing to i3D.net bringing an even better gaming experience to its users!
