i3D.net closed during holidays and i3D.net December event 2009

The i3D.net office will be closed on the i3D.net December event on December 19th (community event) from 11:00 am.

From Thursday 24th December until Saturday 26th december our telephone service will not be available due to christmas.

Ticket support is delayed but active these 3 days. On Sunday 27th December we are fully reachable per telephone and ticket again.

Network maintenance December 8th 2009

In our efforts to optimize our network, we have identified an issue affecting ARP traffic in our network. This issue was escalated with Brocade and has been reproduced in their lab and identified as a software bug. i3D will perform maintenance this Tuesday to implement a bug fix and i3D NOC will upgrade the routers in the same timeframe with additional memory.

Left 4 Dead 2 servers available now

Left 4 Dead 2 is now available for order at i3D.net. Servers will be setup in demo mode until the full retail game is released. i3D.net has 10 servers online for our community at http://forum.i3d.net.

New Left 4 Dead 2 orders are setup the same day. For a limited time, Left 4 Dead is available for just 9,90 Euros a month on all European and United States i3D.net locations including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles.

i3D connects to AMS-IX; DE-CIX and LINX will follow

Interactive 3D (i3D.net) is now connected to the AMS-IX through a direct 10 gigabit fiber connection.

This membership in AMS-IX facilitates i3D to exchange peering traffic at the largest internet exchange in the world. i3D will use the AMS-IX connection to add more reliable, direct and low latency connections to major ISPs and content providers.

Scheduled network upgrades
In the following months, the i3D network will grow even further. New connections to the London Internet Exchange (LINX), Equinix IX in Paris and the German Internet Exchange (DE-CIX) are scheduled to go online in December 2009, January 2010.

There is also a new transit connection scheduled to be installed this month. Two gigabit ports with KPN Eurorings are currently being installed to our routing platform in Amsterdam Nikhef.

Global Crossing fiber cut

This morning, a fiber cut in the network of one of our uplink providers caused a small disruption in our services in Rotterdam.

Information from Global Crossing NOC

Location of fibre cut is at Leiden which is 71.434 km from Amsterdam on the 113km section between Amsterdam & Rotterdam. This has been caused by civil contractors carrying out Asphalt road surfacing. They have carried the surfacing too far & have damaged a 20 metre section of ducting & all fibres inside it. The site of the break has to have the heavy machinery cleared away & new ducting installed before fibres can be spliced. Estimated time for ducting to be put in place is 17:00 CET. Fibres hope to be re-spliced by 18:00 CET.

All i3D services are routed through our other connections at the moment.

Compensation structure for non-SLA customers

i3D will compensate customers without SLA on services as follows:

- Game servers (non SLA): 5 days compensation
- Voice servers Ventrilo and Teamspeak (non SLA): 5 days compensation
- Dedicated servers (non SLA): 10 days compensation
- Dedicated servers (non SLA) with paid networking devices (firewall, proxy or private switch): 20 days compensation
- Dedicated servers (with SLA) on individual basis, you have already been contacted

Compensation is awarded on request per ticket (submit your ticket to category Mediation) with subject "Compensation request". Compensation is awarded within 48 hours and your ticket will be updated to confirm.

Colocation customers receive compensation based on their SLA plus additional goodwill compensation.

Non colocation customers with a SLA have been contacted individually by our account team.

Additionally, colocation and dedicated server customers receive double bandwidth for 3 months (November, December, January)

Dedicated server customers: check your DNS

In September 2009, i3D set up a new DNS platform spread out over our European locations. Our old DNS infrastructure was decommissioned three days before the server migration.

After the server migration, a number of customers experienced slow SSH logins, applications unable to resolve hostnames and other name server related problems.

To make sure your server is not affected, please check your DNS settings and if needed, update the settings to the following configuration:

DNS1: 213.163.76.185 (located in Amsterdam)
DNS2: 91.198.152.196 (located in Frankfurt)

For further information, please check the ticket send on September 23rd to all clients regarding DNS settings.

INTERACTIVE 3D OPENS 36,000 SQ FT DATACENTER

Rotterdam, October 27th 2009 – i3D has outgrown its current datacenter. The past months the i3D team has been working hard to ensure a smooth transition to our brand new datacenter.

Our new datacenter, SmartDC “Dataport of Rotterdam”, is located at the Van Nelle national monument in Rotterdam. The SmartDC facility is 36,000 sq ft with over 12 megawatt power available. This massive capacity provides i3D the much needed space to expand their European hosting activities. Together with our multimillion datacenter, i3D launches a 53 gigabit redundant network built on proven technology and connected to international carriers in our own datacenter and Amsterdam.
By controlling the datacenter and network aspect of our operations even further, i3D will provide an even higher level of service to existing and future customers.

Affected locations
European i3D datacenter operations in Frankfurt, London and Paris are slightly affected while our primary name server is moved. i3D services in Japan, Australia and the United States are unaffected.

About our new facility
SmartDC is located at the industrial national monument Van Nelle in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This facility is located 0.5 mile from previous Rotterdam location.

SmartDC has over 12 megawatt available on the 23 kV power network. The complete datacenter is setup for high density hosting with 32 AMP 230V AC racks. Two power feeds are available per rack and the datacenter is equipped with both UPS and generator equipment. Each datacenter suite contains 34 racks with both cold and warm corridors enclosed.
